Sonja Borgmann
Hello! I am a documentary film producer with a passion for cross-cultural storytelling, human rights and criminal justice.

I've published stories for FRONTLINE PBS and Balkan Insight on post-war developments in the Balkans and trained with journalists from the BBC, AP, and AFP in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
I’ve produced true crime documentaries on A&E and TUBI on cases that challenged the American justice system, including the series reboot of American Justice and features on the FBI's most wanted international fraudster, Ruja Ignatova, and infamous serial killers like the Grim Sleeper.

I love producing educational documentaries and engaging community-focused screenings!

At FRONTLINE PBS, I developed public events for Emmy award-winning documentaries and multi-media investigations into overlooked stories – from UN(RE)SOLVED Civil Rights Era cold cases, to Academy-nominated FOR SAMA on the Syrian war, to the fight for media freedom with Nobel Peace prize winner Maria Ressa.

In addition to producing, I am pursuing my M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University to strengthen my skills in conflict sensitive reporting and producing media that bridges social divides.

My B.A. in International Relations from Carleton College and experiences living abroad drive my passion for telling stories that inspire curiosity and connection across social and cultural backgrounds.
